Tips to repair and prevent acne

Healthy skin can often be achieved with some small adjustments to your lifestyle and diet, and here is a list of tips that we have found to work best.

Keep hands off face and drink plenty of water.  This is always a first recommendation with great results, however consistency and patience are key. Breaking habits such as touching your face takes practice, and creating the good habit of drinking more water also requires some effort.

Do not squeeze pimples or blackheads: Use topical treatments instead and visit a dermatologist or esthetician. This will prevent scarring and spreading of the condition.

Avoid sugar and dairy.  This is also a very important step and is easier said than done; however, if you make the consistent effort to read labels and to not make exceptions, you will probably see amazing results. Pure stevia extract and fresh fruit are good alternatives to refined sugar or sugar alcohols.

Avoid processed foods and soy products, keep carbs low especially white bread/rice, and eat plenty of veggies and fish. Be sure to include salmon, broccoli, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, shiitake mushrooms, avocados, hemp hearts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and plenty of leafy greens which are all very rich in nutrients and minerals that are beneficial for balancing and maintaining healthy skin.

Steep 1 tsp. chopped fresh ginger in two cups of boiling water for 10 minutes and drink 1 cup every day.  Ginger is wonderful for digestive health, which is wonderful for healthy skin.

Manage stress – Exercise, go outside, and stay positive.  Do not underestimate the value of a peaceful mind, it really can show on your face! Also, fresh air, exercise, and sunshine do wonders for the skin. Be sure to shower after vigorous exercise.

Chlorinated water strips natural oils from skin and can cause sebaceous glands to overcompensate and overproduce sebum. When washing face or applying water with moisturizer, it is best to use spring, filtered, or distilled water.

For stubborn problems, supplement with zinc, B5, and  vitamin A.  Also helpful are probiotics, vitamins C and D, and magnesium. Be sure to consult with your health care practitioner before starting new supplements.

Time. Be patient, it takes time for your skin to heal. You should see an improvement within 3-4 weeks.
